If you live in California and have been worrying about not being able to afford auto insurance, you need not worry anymore. California’s low cost automobile insurance program provides cheap insurance to those eligible. So before you hit the road next time make sure take out an insurance policy and safeguard yourself and your family.
Thought the state law requires every driver to have an auto insurance cover there are many drivers on the road who are driving without any form of insurance. This is as a result of the very high cost of insurance. It is with this in mind that the state legislators came up with the California low cost automobile insurance program (CLCA) in 1999. This allows a resident of California to purchase a basic auto insurance cover for under $400 annually. Since 2007 this program is available throughout the state of California, with the rates varying for the different counties.
In order to qualify for this insurance scheme you need to meet the following requirements
• Family should meet the income eligibility of $27,075for a single person, $36,425 for two persons and $55,125 for a family of four.
• The value of the vehicle to be insured should not be over $20,000.
• The applicant must be a “good driver” and should not have more than one at fault property damage only claim accident or one point for a moving violation in the past three years.
• Should be over the age of nineteen years and should have had a driver’s license continuously for at least three years.
• Should not have a at fault accident involving bodily injury or death in the past three years and no felony or misdemeanor conviction for a violation of the Vehicle Code.
• Should not hold a liability insurance cover for another vehicle at the same time.
This will give you a minimal basic auto insurance coverage required by the state with the option to purchase additional auto insurance cover for a small fee to further safeguard yourself while on the road.
